Five researchers from the MPOV project took part in the Internationales Symposium Grundprobleme der frühgeschichtlichen Entwicklung im mittleren Donauraum - Wandel durch Migration? held on 3-7 December 2014 in Straubing in southeastern Bavaria and gave their presentations: Prof. M. Mączyńska - Neues über die Völkerwanderungszeit in Pommern; Prof. J. Schuster - Ein Kommen und Gehen? Die Oder-Nieße-Region vom 2. bis 5. Jahrhundert; Prof. A. Bursche - Die Wurzeln des germanischen Münzwesens; dr A. Zapolska - The hoard from Frombork as perceivable trace of elusive goldsmith in Early Migration Period in Barbaricum; mgr M. Rudnicki - New exciting finds from Kujawy (central Poland): A Vandal(?) settlement centre from the late Migration Period?.
Professors M. Mączyńska, A. Bursche and J. Schuster were invited to preside over the proceedings of the symposium, a prestigious event attended this year by 45 speakers from ten European countries. Most of the papers focused on the area of Central Europe and the Danube region. The symposium participants made a visit to the Gäubodemuseum and some archaeological sites in the area around Regensburg. The next symposium from the Grundprobleme series will be held in October 2015 near the town of Sremska Mitrovica (Roman Sirmium) in Serbia.
